We have been studying longitude and latitude. We even used oranges to draw the equator, and the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. The kids remembered latitude and longitude in a couple different ways. Some people remember that latitude is "laying" down. The second letter of latitude and parallel are both As and the second letter of longitude and poles are Os. Longitudes meet at the poles and latitudes are parallel.

We continue to measure many different things. We are also making and naming various shapes. With playdough we showed parallel lines, lines and line segments, parallelograms, trapezoids, perimeter, area, angles, polygons, squares, rectangles, points, right angles, triangles, and congruent. We worked in small groups and made rectangles and measured their perimeter. We used triangles to make rectangles. We made triangles with straws and measured their perimeter.

We have some very fun books that we are reading. We wrote brief letters to a class in Oklahoma. We will be writing them and sending pictures to them for the rest of the year. This is a buddy project with Ruth Ann's class. We continue to do listening activities. We recently looked at dichotomies and observed widow's peaks, curly hair, tongue flipper and roller, and eye color. There were two pairs of students that matched each other.

Please remember school is closed on Monday.
